'Alphabet' Positive Word Challenge

Updated: Jun 16, 2020

Last week, I decided to take inspired action. Over the last few months, a couple of friends have been encouraging me to 'put myself out there,' and one of the things i've been wanting to do to challenge myself is 'Facebook Live' posts.

Ok then....if I want to do more Facebook lives, I've got to have a reason to do them....right? And that's when I thought of the Alphabet Positive Word Challenge.

The words we use are so important

Every day we speak about 7000 words, and some of us, much more than that! But do you take notice of the words you are using in your conversation? So many of us use, and constantly repeat, words like 'hard', 'difficult', 'sad'.....and many other negative words. And just being aware of the words we choose can make a huge difference to every day.

Say the word 'smile' and you will have a smile on your face!

Go on.... experiment. The words we use have a massive impact on our emotions and how we look at life. If you can just be a little more aware of the words you are using, you will recognise the common words and may even be able to change the negative words to positive ones.

Anyway....back to the challenge

Over the next 26 weeks, I will be challenging myself to infuse a positive word, not only into my conversations, but also to 'live' by that word! The first week of the challenge, I was spoilt for choice. There are so many wonderful 'A' words.....Adventure, Amazing, Awesome, Action..... to name just a few, but I went with the word AUTHENTIC.

It was really interesting how I began to use the word everyday, but what was more interesting was how I began to make choices around my actions, asking myself if I was being Authentic.

The dictionary definition of AUTHENTIC is 'of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine', but I like to think of it as being absolutely true to yourself. Now I'm not saying that prior to this week i've been 'unauthentic' - hahaha - far from it, but I also must admit I have done a few things differently.

Three things I learned this week - using the word Authentic

  1. It's ok to speak up and say what you really think. Be careful with this, it's not a license to be rude or unkind, but you should be able to express yourself and your opinions, without worrying if someone may be upset.

  2. As I started to infuse this word into my everyday thoughts, I found I was more conscious of my choices as well as my choice of words. I made decisions that I think would have been different last week.

  3. It's ok to be uncomfortable. Sometimes when we embrace being authentic, it can take us out of our comfort zone as we do things a bit differently than normal.

Well, that's week 1 of the Alphabet Positive words challenge done, and I'm excited to see what the following weeks bring....and if my 'Facebook Lives' improve !!
